Visiting by land

A couple was walking the Olympia waterfront far ahead of me but my eyes focused on the man’s hat. It was the perfect hat for a bright summer day but uncommon enough to reel me in.  The couple once had a boat, he said, and they explored Puget Sound thoroughly a few years ago –including the Port of Olympia where they had memories of the Oyster House restaurant.*  They live in Oregon, sold the boat, and returned to Puget Sound this time by land.  As we chatted he let me take three photographs of him with the marina and West Bay in the background.

*He said they hadn’t expected to see anything left of the Oyster House as they walked Percival Landing.  But there it was.  The restaurant was gutted in a 2013 fire. It has been re-built and will re-open late July, 2014.
