I passed this man walking and then met him when he later stopped for a rest in the shade. Both times he was fiddling with his music player and in good spirits. “I got no problem” with you taking my picture, he told me. “Gotta be quick, though. I’m going to start walking again soon.” I promised I would be. Then just before I clicked the shutter he asked “I don’t need to look at you, do I?” Of course not, I said. Just be you. And so he was.
