He asked if I’d prefer to take his picture without the headphones. “Oh no,” I thought, since they were what first intrigued me when I saw him reading at a table in the park. “Please,” I said. “Put them back on.” He did and I tried a few photos from just above table level across from him. His head moved gently with music that I couldn’t hear and this photo — the third of four that I took — caught him glancing up at me as his head and hands made a smooth movement a half second after turning a page.
