Shoes, strap, and surf

He is 3 and a half years old and enjoying the surf at a Tacoma beach. He scooped water with his shoes and splashed to his heart’s content. Why he was wearing his bright blue hat sideways was a mystery even to his mother who was watching him from the shore a few feet away. The entire time I was nearby — maybe ten minutes — the side strap dangled in front of his face.  It didn’t seem bother him a whit.

By the way: I intentionally bleached the colors on this image. Not only did I want to convey the brightness of the summer’s day, but I wanted to show the boy’s facial expression which would otherwise have vanished under the deep shadow of the hat.
