I wanted to make her portrait connect her with her art (i.e., wire-wrapped stone jewelry she sells as StarandStoneJewelry on Etsy), and I loved that her dark hair and top made the surroundings pop in rich colors. Eventually I discovered a way to give the soft tone of her face a frame of its own amid those colors. She was very kind to let me distract her from work for a moment while I shuffled around the table with my camera, but it was after she resumed her work that I found this: my favorite shot. There’s something beautiful about an artist creating her craft in public view.
