LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Published by Steve Campion. Category: Sports & Recreation

After 17 straight losses, the Seattle Mariners rallied for 17 hits and 9 runs yesterday (July 27) to defeat the New York Yankees 9-2.  It ended the longest losing skid in franchise history.  Think of it this way: seventeen games is more than 10% of the entire season!  Even during those painful years of the 1970s and 80s, Seattle teams managed to eke out a win every dozen games or less.  This year, though, they were already 5 losses into their streak before the All-Star break, and went another dozen after that.  They just couldn’t get out of the funk.

Until yesterday.

Now that the streak is finished, we regrettably list the ten longest losing streaks in Mariners team history.  If there’s a positive to take away, it might be this: Had Seattle lost only twice more — Wednesday’s game and again Thursday — we would have been preparing a list of the 10 longest losing streaks in all of major league baseball history.  THAT infamy has been averted.  Whew!
