Doing the Puyallup: Contest Entries
Published by Steve Campion. Category: Arts, Culture & Media
This is the fourth in a series of lists from the Puyallup Fair this month.
Some people collect Dr Pepper memorabilia, ticket stubs, bobbleheads, or Star Wars figures. Others brew their own beer, can fruit, or arrange farm vegetables (see grange display, right). Many more paint or photograph the world around them. The common thread? They exhibit at the fair.
Visit the Hobby Hall or the Pavilion at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup and you can browse the sometimes interesting, sometimes amazing, and often odd world of objects that inspire other people’s pastimes. On a visit to the fair last week, for instance, we voted on two photography contests, saw some intricate fabric art, and strolled the hobby hall where we overheard a young boy so enraptured by a Transformers collection that he described every piece to any one who would listen. You might quickly pass most displays, but once in a while someone’s artistic talent or hobby might surprise you.
Today’s WA-List tallies the contest entrants at last year’s Puyallup Fair.

The hobby hall, and grange displays along with the animals has always been what it was about for me. Love it all. Some very interesting numbers.
